meskerem 04-09-05:
Eritrean public in Washington DC metro expects
to meet with Dr. Yohannes Zeremariam, ELF Head of Foreign Relations..
Meskerem has been informed that Dr. Yohannes Zeremariam, ELF Head of
Foreign relations, is in Washington, DC for an unofficial
visit. The source has not indicated whether Dr. Yohannes will call
a public meeting. The Eritrean public however expects to meet with
Dr. Yohannes as he has always made himself available to meet with the
public in his previous official and unofficial visits to the area. This
would provide an opportunity for Dr. Yohannes to respond to some
questions raised about him, his organization and the opposition at
large . |

meskerem 4-3-05 :
EDA shocks Eritreans by declaring the
border ruling as unjust.
The EDA, in its decision statement posted in
Tigrinya (#3), has declared the border ruling unjust. The
decision stated that the EDA found the decision to be unjust
because it give away some territory to Ethiopia. It also stated
that it accepts the border decision "legally" ( in principle ?)and
called for peaceful implementation of this unjust ruling.
This is the first time that such a position has been
officially declared as the joint position of the Eritrean opposition
organizations. The public will definitely compare this position
with the current positions of the Ethiopian and Eritrean
governments. |

meskerem 3-31-05:
ECMS reports EDA
goes to Addis to brief Ethiopian officials on the outcome of its
meeting and to hold its next executive meeting while the UN warns
of the danger of war.
EDA executive members (except EDP rep) are in Addis to meet and
brief the Ethiopian officials of the outcome of their meetings,
including the sharing of the yet to be declared charter. The EDA
has not yet officially shared its charter with the Eritrean
people.
The visit to Addis has created discomfort within the opposition
camp on account of
the fear of war between Ethiopia and Eritrea. In the report
posted by ECMS, the Secretary General of EDA, Mr. Hussein Khalifa,
accused the Eritrean government of
"heading to the war ". Apparently, the leader of the
Eritrean opposition chose not to call upon the Ethiopian
government to
pull its forces back from the border and to comply with the
border ruling
as
requested by the Security Council. It is to be remembered
that the EDA issued a generic statement on the border demarcation
issue. |

EDA Charter Leaked?
In an attempt to get a clarification on why
the EDA Charter was not posted in official websites of EDA member
organizations, meskerem asked five EDA member organizations if
they have officially/formally received copies of the EDA charter
for distribution to the public. All said that they have not
officially received copies of the yet to be declared charter of
the EDA. Those who responded did not know how or why the charter
was posted by Awate and Eritreana websites. Is this an
intentional leak to "test the waters" or just another leak
carried in violation of the rules of the game? The public will
soon find out. |
