...   Al Qaeda is basically a worldwide network that doesn't know any boundaries, as we all know. They use the media information to process and spread their ideology. As such, they use surrogates, and surrogates perhaps are some of the upcoming terrorist organizations like, oh, perhaps the Eritrean Islamic Jihad, the Somali Mujahadeen, the AIAI, and as such they use these surrogates to run their operations.

Three years after a brutal crackdown in which the government shuttered independent media outlets and detained large numbers of critics, Eritrea remained the leading jailer of journalists in Africa. Seventeen journalists were still in prison at the end of 2004, many held incommunicado in secret jails, according to CPJ research.

EDA chairman  believed to be an Ex-TPLF
meskerem 3-22-05:  The current Chairman of the EDA, Mr. Berhane Yemane aka  Hanjema,  is believed to have joined and became a member of  the TPLF ( the current dominant  party in Ethiopia) after having been wounded and captured by TPLF during the joint attack of the ELF by EPLF and TPLF.    He was  treated for his wounds by the TPLF and allegedly  joined the TPLF until the TPLF took over power in Ethiopia. He is believed to have been demobilized thereafter.  Asked whether this is new information or why this is an issue at present, those who were/are close to the Chairman and his organization state that this is not new information but  needs to be shared with the  public as the public has the right to have a full and compete information of the countryman who is holding the highest office in the Eritrean opposition, the position of the chairman of the Eritrean Democratic Alliance, EDA.

PFDJ a chauvinist regime,  says EDA Secretary General.
EDA in Kassala from GCI report: 3-16-05

EDA Secretary General in meeting with the public in Kasalla  said that the aim of EDA is to "..replace the chauvinist* regime in Asmara.." (Report by GCI).  The EDA still has not defined the regime politically creating confusion as to whether such statement might lean towards the ethno-centric definition of the regime as advocated by ethnic organizations. The media center that reported the news is now addressing the regime as a chauvinist regime. It seems that  a new terminology is gradually being introduced .  Proper political definition of the regime seems to be in order to clear any confusion as to whether the EDA considers the regime to be  a chauvinistic* ethnic regime.

meskerem 3-16-05: Charter distribution to member organizations confirmed.
Meskerem has confirmed through reliable source that the charter has been given to member organizations and that members of these organizations have been discussing the charter for sometime. This  contradicts with what the Secretary General of EDA  stated in his interview with GIC on Marc 13, 2005.  He said ,".. it will be published in the coming time. The delay of its publication is due to technical reasons of which, for instance, precision in translation is one."
