Two Eritreans illegally entered a post of the United
Nations peacekeeping force overseeing the ceasefire along the border
between Eritrea and Ethiopia over the weekend, and one of them was

Inquiry finds 199 died in Ethiopia

up by Ethiopia's parliament to investigate two bouts of post-election
violence in 2005 has found that 193 civilians and six policemen died, a
copy seen by Reuters on Wednesday showed. Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's
government had said 58 died, while independent media had estimated 84
fatalities based on witnesses and hospital sources.

killed and many wounded in religious riots in western Ethiopia
this week when Christians and Muslims clashed after a seasonal
Orthodox festival, officials said Wednesday.
In addition to the casualties, two Christian
churches were set ablaze and some 100 people forced to flee
during the unrest that flared up Sunday near the town of Jimma,
about 490 kilometers (305 miles) west of Addis Ababa, they
said.
