Sudan have re-opened their border after a decade of closure amid
frosty ties, with Asmara offering to mediate peace talks between
Khartoum and western Darfur rebels, officials said Sunday.
Following last month’s signing of an
Eritrean-mediated peace between the Sudanese government and eastern
rebels, Eritrea said it and Sudan had fully restored cross-border
links at a ceremony on Friday.

6, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — A former rebel leader in western Sudanese region
of Darfur, who has reached a peace deal with the government, has
cautiously welcomed on Sunday Eritrea’s initiativeto host negotiations
between the Sudanese government and rebel groups which still reject
the peace accord.
"We encourage any dialogue which can lead to the end
of the bloodshed in Darfur on the condition that the dialogue is held in
the framework of the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA)," said Mini Arkou
Minawi, leader of the main faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM).
MOGADISHU,
Somalia – A delegation of Somali lawmakers broke ranks with the
government and traveled to the capital Sunday to hold peace talks with
the country's Islamic militia, the latest sign of cracks in the
fragile administration.
The
25-member delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Sharif Hassan Sheik
Aden, arrived in Mogadishu despite a request from the government that
they try to form a “unified” position with the president and prime
minister first.

imminent war" The speaker of Somalia's transitional parliament is in the
capital, Mogadishu, for talks with Islamists to try to negotiate a peace
deal. Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan is the first senior figure from the
fragile government to go to Mogadishu since it was captured by the
Islamists in July.
Eritrea
tells two more foreign charities to leave 05

ASMARA, Nov 5 (Reuters) - Eritrea has ordered two more
international charities to leave the country, adding to a long list of
foreign organisations it has expelled, diplomatic sources said on Sunday
..Diplomats said the International Rescue Committee and Samaritans'
Purse both received letters last week telling them to leave Eritrea this
month.
Eritrean women fleeing from Eritrea to Ethiopia report of being gang

women tell me that they gave sex as an alternative [to money] when
crossing the border," Tadeje said. "Sometimes they are gang raped. Most
of them who arrive here have chronic inflammatory infections and
sexually transmitted diseases - it's a good

Deki-Gebru gets electricity supply

Deki-Gebru, 23 October 2006 - As part of the
efforts exerted by the Eritrean Electricity
Corporation to expand electricity supply to
all parts of the country, Deki-Gebru in
Adi-Tekelezan sub-zone has now got electricity
supply.
In the meeting, both sides held in-depth
discussions on the prevailing political situation
in the Horn of Africa. Indicating that Norway is
interested in the region, Mr. Johansen lauded the
mediation role Eritrea has played in the East
Sudan issue.

Access to potable water supply in Shakat administrative area

administrative area in Karora sub-zone have now access to
potable water supply thanks to the construction of a new
facility to that effect. The project comprises the digging of
a new well, installation of solar energy power, construction
of a water tanker, as well as distribution of pipelines and
stations.

received and held talks with the French Development Minister,
Ms. Brijit Jirardin at the Denden Hall here. The talks focused
on the development of Franco-Eritrean relations, the
prevailing situation in the Horn of Africa, the role Eritrea
is playing to promote peace and stability in the region, as
well as the current global politics and the negative US
interference in the internal affairs of different countries.

The Secretary of the PFDJ, Mr.
Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, today held talks with
the Pakistani roving Ambassador to Sub-Saharan
countries, Mr. Hamid Asgar Khadawi. Both sides
agreed to strengthen the historic relations
between Eritrea and Pakistan and that of the
PFDJ and the Pakistani ruling Party, as wells
as to exert efforts to foster cooperation on
concrete projects.

rainfall in September has been normal or slightly above

killed and many wounded in religious riots in western Ethiopia
this week when Christians and Muslims clashed after a seasonal
Orthodox festival, officials said Wednesday.
In addition to the casualties, two Christian
churches were set ablaze and some 100 people forced to flee
during the unrest that flared up Sunday near the town of Jimma,
about 490 kilometers (305 miles) west of Addis Ababa, they
said.
