Reconstruction of Dirko Micro-dam finalized

Emni-Haili, 24 August 2006 -
The reconstruction project of Dirko micro-dam in
Emni-Haili sub-zone, Southern region, at a cost of 10
million Nakfa has been finalized. The Minister of Public
Works, Mr Abraha Asfaha, inaugurated the newly
reconstructed dam on August 22.
The dam that sustained extensive damage in 2005 due to
heavy rains has now a capacity of holding 720,000 cubic
meters of water. So far, it has managed to hold 5,000
cubic meters in this year’s rainy season.

divert river water for irrigation, By

Karora, 21 August 2006 - Efforts are underway in Meliet,
Karora sub-zone, to divert river water flowing to the sea
for facilitating irrigation farming on 3,000 hectares.
The task is being undertaken through the coordinated
efforts of the Administration of the Northern Red Sea
region, the Ministry of Agriculture and RODDAB
Construction Company. The inhabitants of the locality are
also taking active participation in the task.

High-level Eritrean-Yemeni delegations set up joint committee

In its meeting in Sana’a, the high-level Eritrean-Yemeni Joint
Committee headed by Mr. Al-Amin Mohammed Seid, PFDJ Secretary,
and Dr. Abubakar Al- Kurbi, Yemeni Foreign Minister, has set
up a joint committee that would implement the bilateral
cooperation agreements concluded earlier.
